Hi, my name is Susan, and I'm going to tell you my deep dark Christmas secret.
But before I do, this is my first post on New England Mamas, so let me tell you a little bit about myself. Mid-forties, married, one son Douglas (age 7.5) and an adult step-daughter who lives with her family in Vermont. I have five dogs, all Scottish Terriers, ranging in age from 12 years to six months, and three cats, all Heinz-57 variety. We live in a smallish Massachusetts town about 40 minutes west of Boston. If you know where 290 dead-ends on 495, you know my town.
I'm a marketing and social media consultant; if you want to know more about that, check out my professional blog Marketing Roadmaps. My personal blog Snapshot Chronicles is part photo blog, part parenting blog. It's more or less our life in pictures -- things we do as a family, trips, and so on. It has photos by me, my son Douglas and my brother Douglas. Yeah, what we lack in originality on the first name score, we make up for in many other ways. You'll see.
I do write about my son on my blogs, and am certain I will here as well. I am however careful about what I share. In five years, when he is a teenager, I don't want anything I wrote to be fodder for unkind classmates. I'm sure he will be more than capable of getting into trouble on his own.
Now to my deep dark Christmas secret.
I love Christmas music. A lot. And hearing it in stores or on the radio isn't enough.
I buy Christmas CDs.
Jazz. Big band. Compilations. Rock. Popular music. Instrumental. Bruce, Bing, Bowie, Ella and Eartha.
You name it, I have it and I inflict it on my family from Thanksgiving to December 25th.
I love it all. Even the songs by bands and artists that I normally don't care for. Because I love the spirit, and even Brittany sounds normal singing a Christmas carol.
One of my favorite Christmas songs isn't played that often, and it's my holiday wish for you:
"May every day be Christmas
And every day be blessed
Let the end of every day be filled with happiness
And may the Lord be good to you with every rising sun
All through the day have a smile for everyone
[repeats] At night time comes a longing to be with ones you love
To sit around the fireside and dream of stars above
So may God bless you and keep you, come what may
Then every day will be a happy day [end repeat]
May good times come to you every day"(May Every Day Be Christmas by Louis Jordan)
Peace.
Welcome! Look forward to reading more from you!

Christmas music is my guilty pleasure too. But by Christmas I don't want to hear another rendition of Jingle Bells for another 11 months.
Glad you're here, Susan!

Merry Christmas to you too! And welcome aboard! Christmas music is so much fun, I can't really pick a favorite. For the serious song, I love Carol of the Bells. And for silly song - I just don't know. They're all so great!
Happy Singing and Happy Holidays.

I love Chirstmas music, too. The cheesier, the better. Boney M rules, but my New Wave Christmas album has it's awesome tracks, too.

My favourite is Fairytale of New York by The Pogues. Not really traditional....
