I think the real reason we send our children off to school is so they can come home and remind us about the really important stuff.
Yesterday, my son brought home a poem entitled, "Martin Luther King's Dream":
Treat people kindly.
Do what is fair.
Work for all people.
Show that you care.
Change what is wrong.
But please do not fight.
Think of new ways
To change wrong to right.
These are the ways,
If we work as a team,
To remember the man
Who said, "I have a dream."
Sharon Siegelman
Today, he came home with a paper dove glued to a Popsicle stick.
On the back of this creation were the words "I have a dream..." in the teacher's handwriting, followed by several lines on which my son wrote: for pepile to do wate is rite
Right on, son.
Right on.
I may just have to do this craft with my kids this weekend. Thanks for the idea and the poem. And, boy, do I wish people would do 'wate is rite' more often.
