I'll channel Brittney Spears for a second here and say, "Oh My GOD, YA'LL!! Are ya'll as busy as Ah am this summer?!?!"
These last few years since my daughter started school, I've noticed a pattern. After the holidays, everything slows down like crazy. The weather usually keeps activities a little quieter, and since I live on Cape Cod, the population drops like... well, pre-conservatorship Brittney's panties.
(Geez, I wonder how many hits that word combination is gonna channel our way? Hi, Perverts!)
Then comes spring, and vacations, and pretty soon all anyone can talk about is how fast the school year is going by, and then BAM! School is over, and it's summer! Yay! Summer's here! Woo hoo! Time to chill out, relax, and for us down here, it's finally time to enjoy the utter fabulousity of summer on the Cape.
Except after the first week or two, everything starts getting busy. All of those sleepy playdates we thought we'd have? Well, half my kids' friends are in camp and the other half are on vacation. Then we were on vacation, and now there's the big musical reprisal and "American Girl" camp and summer school and YMCA camp for a week and holy moly! Aren't we supposed to be relaxing?
It has become so crazy busy for us over the last week that I actually found myself wistfully thinking of the start of the school year. That's right - I can hardly wait for school to start! I know, I should bite my tongue, because soon enough it will get cold and gray. But I feel like I can't even catch my breath, and that is no way to spend a beautiful July weekend.
Did you write "American Girl camp"----wholy moley, how did I not hear about this one!?!? And, I agree---how in the world did summer get so crazy? And, where are all the kids?!?!? Some of my daughter's friends are in camp almost all summer. Scheduling playdates is tricky. Thankfully, we're not vacation until the end of August, so I don't have to think about packing. . .
