This past weekend, my husband and I headed away from our Trenches full of kids for a getaway weekend. Our destination? Freeport, Maine and the land of Subarus and LLBean. (Freeport is about a 2-1/2 hour drive from Boston.)
Upon our 8pm arrival on Friday night, we headed into downtown for a bite to eat and were lured by the signage of this place: Pedro O'Haras "Your neighborhood pub and cantina".
While neither of us found ourselves craving shepherd's pie washed down with a margarita or a burrito with some Guinness, sticking solely to the Mexican side of things, we did enjoy some quesadillas with these:
We spent two nights at Freeport's Hampton Inn. For about $100 per night. Not a bad rate for off season, as their prices definitely double, if not triple, during the peak summer months. Plus, it's very family-friendly with its indoor pool and close proximity to shops and restaurants.
Up bright and early on Saturday morning, we headed to the mecca: LLBean. I had to stop for a requisite photo by the big boot (see above---in 23 degree weather with a 15 degree wind chill, mind you...so no, that's not a smile on my face - more like a frozen grimace).
Can I just tell you that LLBean has, by far, the best customer service that I've ever experienced anywhere? I suspect perhaps there is something in the water (or heavy drug usage) because everyone there is So. Very. Happy. And. Helpful. I'm not even kidding. I dare you to try to find a cranky LLBean employee. You simply can't.
Here my husband models Bean's Mad Bomber Hat for your viewing displeasure.
And to top it off? On Sunday (yes, we shopped there 2 days in a row, much to my delight and my husband's chagrin) they were handing out free balsalm wreaths to customers!
Lunch and dinner on Saturday were both consumed at the same place. Because we are Seriously Boring.
I can't recommend Jameson Tavern enough. For lunch, we sat on the Tap Room side (more casual and pub-like) and Hubby said his Tavern Reuben sandwich was the best he's ever eaten.
For dinner we sat in the dining room and enjoyed wine, Seafood-Stuffed Haddock, wine, New York Sirloin, and wine.
Did I mention the wine?
But the very best part of my entire getaway weekend is the fact that my HOLIDAY SHOPPING IS DONE. Let me just say that it's going to be a very (LLBean) fleece-full Christmas in our Trenches this year!
Just one question: how to add your blog into my rrs reader, thanks so much.

Just go to the top of the page where it says Meet the Mamas (center column) and click on the 3rd link down. Sorry it's kind of hidden there---we are in the midst of a redesign, so that will likely pop out more once we're done.
